Somatic Healing Process

Develop Tools To Build Stability and Safety

Every 5 seconds the body sends the brain a message about if we feel safe or not.

Therefore one of the most effective ways to move from reacting without thinking to responding based on what we care about is through the felt senses.

From here, we can learn and retrain our nervous system to develop our authentic selves.

Equally important, we also learn how to create safety in the coaching relationship by learning how to set boundaries and provide feedback about if things are working or not, in order to ensure you feel safe and heard during the process.

The relationship is build on consent, where I hold the knowledge that you don’t need to be fixed, you have the inner resources to heal, and you know what you need.

Overriding or numbing sensations, while a good survival strategy, leaves us disconnected from a key source of information from our body.

By reconnecting to our aliveness through our sensations, we can feel what we long for and care about and build empathy and connection for ourselves and others.

We start by learning how to identify cues of safety and danger, restoring your sense of choice, and how to tolerate internal sensations/ emotions without getting overwhelmed.

Uncover What Was Missing Or Didn't Happen

We become stuck in a thought pattern or an experience in the past when an experience was too much too fast, too little, or not enough for too long.

The roots of our anxiety, depression, and unhealthy coping mechanisms / behaviors won’t go away without our body finding a way to release these memories and imprints.

Our work together is about understanding the memories in the body of what happened, discovering what was missing or didn’t happen in the past, and allowing the body to naturally release emotions and energy that didn’t occur at the time.

Being with our internal sensations, emotions, and experiences allows us to listen to, somatically process, and transform these stories into more aliveness, purpose, love, and power.

Somatic work includes talking, but the talking is used to track body sensation and meaning attached to experiences, rather than going into the overwhelming moments.

This means connecting to physical sensations like temperature, movement, and pressure in order to help us reconnect with ourselves and what we long for.

Living inside our bodies gives us more choice, increases our ability to be present in more situations, and helps us act connected to what matters to us rather than react to get away from something.

Make Meaning & Integrate The Experience

The end result of somatic work is allowing our mind and body to create a new and more empowered relationship with the past experience.

By adding the body into the healing process, change and new skills become natural habits and actions so they can be counted on even under the same pressures.

Doing somatic work long term brings the body and mind out of survival mode into a state of being fully alive, including a reduction of unhealthy coping skills, less physical pain, ability to sleep, more stable moods, and with lower stress, the body can produce more “feel good” hormones such as serotonin and oxytocin.

What Are Somatic Sessions Like?

Wondering what it’s like to do somatic trauma therapy? Here are two examples of sessions to get a feel for what this highly creative and experimental process is like.

Modalities

DARe (Dynamic Attachment Repatterning Experience)

DARe is a trauma and attachment modality helps clients address unresolved trauma, heal attachment wounds and reclaim and restore secure attachment skills.

The modality is a unique blend of psychotherapeutic modalities, experiential strategies and neuroscience and spiritual perspective.

Parts Work / Internal Family Systems (IFS)

Identifying parts of yourself that are stuck in a cycle or pattern, determine their unmet needs, and creating a safe container to reconnect your brain and body to the source of the harm to allow it to integrate.

Somatic Experiencing

A technique to facilitate the completion of self-protective motor responses and the release of thwarted survival energy bound in the body, thus addressing the root cause of trauma symptoms.

The process involves building your tolerance for difficult bodily sensations and suppressed emotions.
